What Makes ZAM Different?
ZAM® is a proprietary zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy coating developed by Nisshin Steel. Unlike standard galvanized steel — which uses a pure zinc coating that corrodes over time — ZAM combines zinc with 11% aluminum and 3% magnesium to create a dramatically more durable barrier.
The magnesium component forms a dense, stable oxide layer that resists salt spray, humidity, and industrial pollutants far longer than conventional coatings. In independent salt spray tests, ZAM panels last 10–20 times longer than standard galvanized panels before showing red rust.
Most importantly, ZAM is self-healing. When a panel is cut, scratched, or penetrated by a fastener, the ZAM coating migrates to cover the exposed steel edge — a property that standard galvanized and Galvalume panels simply do not have.
